This is an excellent cookbook that is a compilation of home cooked recipes found in all households in Japan. There are some variations that I saw coming from farming prefectures that specialize a specific ingredient and highlighting its taste, texture when cooking a great dish.
These recipes are good for 2 people, but can be doubled for bigger appetites in the zwesrern countries.

There are some illustrations on how to prepare fish, seafood and vegetables for anesthetics Nd visual appeal. --EPIcurean M.
